Hacking the food system!

On the 6-9th of September The Foodprint Lab team were arranging a big Food Hackathon for a regenerative food System and countryside - called Vischan2030. Read more about the hackathon on the website vischan2030.com.

The 16 participants came from around the world and some of them are also part of the Grow Gothenburg community. They were divided into 4 teams and had 48 hours on them to create a sustinable innovative bussiness idea to solve this challange. They were helped by mentors and experts in product development, graphic design and inspired by well known lecturers such as Niklas Wennberg from Stadsjord, and Richard Perkins from Ridgedale Permaculture. And their whole process was guided by process leader and business developer Lotta Lehikonen from Drivhuset.

If you want to see the interesting lectures check out the Vischan2030 facebook page or enjoy this video from Richard Perkins lecture:

One of the challenges at Vischan was given to the multinational team 4, consisting of María Ramos Cáceres from Spain, Elin Linnéa Östensson from SLU Uppsala, our GrowGBG community members Victoria Heath from USA, Vasu Dev from India and Sarah Eagles from Uganda. Their challenge was how to bridge the generational gap of farmers retiring, by matching the resource of newcomer's knowledge in farming.

And after two days of hard work and some great feedback and encouragements from people like Richard Perkins they were ready to present their idea to the public and jury at MAT2017 - Swedens biggest food fair.

The team’s idea is to create an easy step by step process plan for the farming interested newcomers to take when they come to Sweden. First they will receive a crowd-funded start kit where they can farm micro greens which is highly profitable and can be farmed all year around indoors. At the same time they will learn Swedish and other relevant knowledge to farm in the Swedish society through an online platform with teaching experts. When they are ready to go further they will be put in contact with local organisations in the city or on the countryside with land to farm and the farmer can get some extra money through the rent of his land, when the time is ready there is someone passionate and hard working to take over the farm. We love this idea! And so did the public, giving it the second most votes during MAT2017. Congratulations team 4!

Since the reality is always more complex than ideas we would love to get your input to help to make this realized. Anyone with suitable contacts or experience who wants to support it to happen? :) I know for sure we at Grow Gothenburg would love to support this to happen.

Co-creating new innovations and services with our dear community is something we love to do!
